Best Dominican restaurant in Jacksonville, Florida! We selected stuff mofongo as an appetizer and eat one was stuffed with 3 different types of mean (chicken, steak and goat). My girlfriend and I ordered alcoholic tamarindo drinks. My main dish was fried pork chops, white rice, red beans and tostones! This restaurants gets a 5 star review from me! Our servers name was Hector and he was so attentive and polite!

My absolute favorite Latin food restaurant in Jax, hands down. My favorites are the pernil with rice and beans. You also must get an empanada and plantains- sweet plantains! The food is always fresh. It's nice to eat in or take out. Service is always amazing. Inside is just an ordinary restaurant. It's clean, nothing crazy fancy. But the food, which is what you're there for is...chef's kiss!!!

My husband and I were driving back home to Ft. lauderdale, Fl. from Upstate NY and wanted some Good Spanish food. Im Dominican he is Anglo. I looked up " Spanish Restaurants in Jacksonville" bc that was where we were going to spend the night. Reviews for Puerto Plata Restaurante looked the best so we decided to give it a try. We were NOT disappointed, i had the Chicharron de pollo ( fried crackling chicken ) with white rice, red beans and Tostones ( fried plantains) My husband had Arroz con Pollo( yellow rice with chicken) Food was Delicious, great flavor, big portions and really reasonable prices. The beer was served in a frozen beer mug, it was as cold as beer should be. My husband said it was the best Spanish food he has had in any Spanish restaurant we have been to. The server was very nice and attentive, the place including the restroom was, very clean. It was not very busy even though it was dinner time. So hopefully ppl will see this review and support this restaurant. It's good to have a great local restaurant. If iI lived in Jacksonville it would be my go to restaurant for Spanish food. If ur passing through and are very hungry and wanting a satisfying meal, stop there. You won't regret it.

My husband had the Cuban sandwich, I had the beef empanada and our daughter had the Dominican fried chicken. All of the dishes were so tasty. Served was very friendly and she came to our table to get our order quickly. The music is a total vibe. Wants to make you get up and dance.

I absolutely LOVE this local 'dive'. If I had not passed it I would have never known about it. Now I live around the corner and it is one of my regular visits for food......The food is authentic (I took my Puerto Rican husband there and he was very pleasantly surprised - he's hard to please, too!!). I love the mofongo and the spicy shrimp with rice. I cannot seem to get enough of these two items. Their plantains with sauce and beans are so delicious - it reminds me of the food I would get while visiting Puerto Rico. I took my MeetUp Group to visit the venue awhile back and everyone loved it! There servers have always been very nice and the prices are reasonable. Delish!!

Great Puerto Rican food! The empanadas were a good starter/treat. The pernil was a little fatty but so flavorful and tasty, not dry at all. The meat juice was so good that you don't even need the mojito garlic sauce. The mofongo also had a lot of flavor and was not as dry as other places. Wish that the beans come with both meals but they only come with the meals that have rice as the side not mofongo. That fine though as the beans were just okay but not great. Meals come with a basic iceberg lettuce salad, I just ate the lettuce with the the pork. I even took some pork home to make a sandwich the next day. Will be back from the pernil soon! Prices

Amazing Food & Service. They also offer some cute seating options which were nice for a birthday celebration. The only con is no free refills. I highly recommend the shrimp and rice and Pina coladas

A lunch favorite for my team. Big portions. Great prices. My favorite is the arroz con pollo. Oh and that fried chicken chicharonnes de pollo, so so good. The service is friendly and fast. It feels like eating at grandmas kitchen. Definitely worth a little drive off Roosevelt Blvd.

Got seated right away, but up front by the bar where there were only four tables. We were the only eating in diners up front, but takeout people waited at a couple of the other tables. We ended with a different server halfway through the meal, not sure why both were pretty good. Fried cheese appetizer was excellent. My wife had rice and shrimp and I had spicy shrimp. I had the option of white or yellow rice, I picked yellow. I had the choice of red or black beans, I chose red. The red beans were ok. Overall, we really enjoyed our entrees. The shrimps were large and cooked to perfection and the rice was excellent. The spicy shrimp was just that, spicy. It wasn't burn your mouth hot at all, but it definitely made me sweat . I would definitely order that dish again.

Puerto Plato Restaurant offers well priced lunch specials and a pleasant patio to enjoy both a lovely day and a great meal. When ordering, you go up to a window and place your order. The lunch specials today were baked chicken, fried chicken, pork chops or rice with chicken. I went with the baked chicken and chose the yellow rice, black beans and the green plantains. With tax, the lunch special was under nine dollars and it was a chicken leg quarter with the above mentioned items. The chicken was pretty good, as was the yellow rice. I am not a fan of plantains, either sweet or green, and with one bite I confirmed that my taste had not changed concerning plantains. The black beans were sadly not good. Overseasoned and not in a good way. The food took a bit longer than I expected it to come out, but not terribly so. The woman at the window was also friendly. Overall, I will give this establishment four stars. It was a good alternative and all (with the exception of the black beans) was pretty good.
